For foreign nationals, additional documents such as a notarized copy of the passport and proof of residential address are required. The process may take slightly longer.

What happens after DIN is allotted?

Under Rule 12 of the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules, 2014, every director must file a DIR-3 KYC (now integrated with Form DIR-3) every year to keep the DIN active. Failure to file KYC can lead to the DIN being marked as "deactivated" or "disqualified." For startups, this is a critical compliance step—if a director's DIN is deactivated, they cannot act as a director until it is re-activated.

Additionally, if a director changes their name or address, they must file Form DIR-6 to update the DIN records within 30 days of the change.
